Winery Round Up

The Jacksonville area is the heart of Souther Oregon’s Wine Country. I know, I didn’t know that was a thing either. But there are so many wineries! One afternoon this week Mitch and I hit 3 of them while watching some of the paragliders overhead competing in the race.

Here are my favorites from where we went:

Fiasco- overall my favorite winery. Great ambiance, cool place, really nice owners. Last year Mitch camped on the grounds and they were super kind and accommodating. Most of their wines were really good, but their Sangiovese was outstanding. It had fantastic cherry flavors and was really smooth on the finish. Mitch even liked it! We were also super classy and brought our own PB&J sandwiches to snack on.

Valley View- the winery itself is beautiful. You can see acres of grapes and their old wine prep barn. They also had a huge grassy area where they have concerts and such. Inside, things were a bit more generic, but the wines were decent. My favorite was their white blend. It was a mix of riesling, chardonnay, and pinot grigio. It was light and slightly sweet, without tasting like a dessert wine. And it was only $10 a bottle- so the price is in my budget!

LongSword- This one wins for best view. They have a bunch of adirondack chairs and bistro tables outside designed to watch the paragliders. You can watch them launch and the field directly behind the building is used as a landing zone. We watched a few pilots land while we sipped wine and ate the crackers and dip we picked up at the local grocery store. Keeping it classy by bringing a box of Wheat Thins to a winery, as always.

More pilots were supposed to be landing at LongSword, but due to poor flying conditions they didn’t make it. But watching literally dozens in the air was still pretty amazing. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon.
